Hotokegaura is a photogenic spot on the blade of the axe-shaped Shimokita Peninsula, where whitish-green tuff rocks line the ground for about 2 kilometers! There are a forest of pale, strangely shaped rocks, and the numerous giant rocks have names such as Nyorai no Kubi (Head of the Buddha), Gohyaku Rakan (Five Hundred Arhats), Hitotsubutsu (One Buddha), Oyako Iwa (Parent and Child Rock), Jusanbutsu Kannon Iwa (Thirteen Buddhas Kannon Rock), Tenryu Iwa (Tenryu Rock), Renge Iwa (Renge Rock), and Gokurakuhama (Gokuraku Beach), all of which are related to "Buddha." This is a geological heritage that can only be seen here in Japan, so be sure to try taking some Instagram-worthy photos!
