Aomori Prefecture, located at the northernmost tip of Honshu, is blessed with nature and world heritage sites such as the Shirakami Mountains and Lake Towada.
The region is also blessed with seafood and mountain produce, and is known for having an abundance of delicious food.
This time, we will introduce one of the most popular local B-class gourmet foods from Aomori Prefecture: Miso Curry Milk Ramen.
Miso curry milk ramen originated when Kiyoshi Sato, who opened a ramen shop in Aomori City, created a menu item that combined curry and milk with a miso, salt, and soy sauce base, which received a great response.
Later, Miso Curry Milk Ramen was born.
The richness of the miso, the spicy kick of the curry, the mellowness of the milk, and the flavor of butter make for an addictive taste, and you can also add toppings of bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, wakame seaweed, and more to your liking.
Today, it has become an indispensable soul food in Aomori City.
It all began in 1968 when Kiyoshi Sato, who opened a popular ramen shop in Sapporo Ramen Yokocho, created a menu that combined curry and milk with a miso, salt, and soy sauce base.
Later, around 1975, it became popular among junior and senior high school students to eat ramen in various combinations.
It is said that this is how the modern-day "Miso Curry Milk Ramen" was born.
Currently, they are collaborating with major cup noodle manufacturers and local food companies to create a flavor that can be easily enjoyed at home.
The materials you will need are as follows:
Chinese noodles 2 Tamamizu 600cc
150cc milk
3 tablespoons miso
1 teaspoon Doubanjiang
1 tablespoon curry powder
½ teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons chicken stock paste
1 tablespoon sesame oil
Black pepper to taste 1 bag of bean sprouts 1 tablespoon of salad oil
Seaweed (as needed) Boiled corn (as needed)
First, heat sesame oil in a frying pan, add miso and doubanjiang, and stir fry. After that, when the spicy aroma of doubanjiang comes out, add water and chicken stock powder, and boil the soup over medium-high heat while dissolving the miso.
Once the soup is thoroughly heated and the miso has dissolved, add the milk, curry powder and salt, and once it comes to a boil, turn off the heat.
Then add the bean sprouts to another frying pan and turn off the heat when they are cooked through.
Once the noodles are boiled, pour the soup you made at the beginning into the bowl and add the noodles. If you like, add some wakame seaweed or corn on top, mix, and it's done. It's also delicious with butter on top.
So far, we have introduced the history and how to make miso curry milk ramen.
